Description:
Sycamores and planetrees (American, London, etc.) are members of the genus Platanus. They are large, woody trees with pealing bark. The leaves are alternate, simple and lobed. The seed balls hang from a short stalk. Unlike most trees, the base of the leaf wraps around the buds where next year's leaves will come from.
